Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Felon-self defense

My fiance and I stoped at a gas station at night and these young boys tried to rob and car-jack us. They pulled out a gun tried to shoot us and tried to shoot my fiance in the head. I am a registered gun owner, he is a felon (tried as a adult at age 17, 14 years ago) I gave him my gun to fire in the air to scare them. This was in self befense for the both of us, the reason I did not shoot, I was scared for my life laying on the seat of the car and I gave him the gun to protect our lives. He was arrested because he is a felon and the charge is shooting within 1,000ft of people. Where is the justice?? This is self defense! He is out on a 100k bond. This is un-fair. What are we looking at? They have post-poned the court date 3 times. The prosecutor called me for an interview and of course I was on my fiance side and told her if we did not do what we did we would NOT be alive.
