Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
What does "FILE RETURNED TO DELAND FELONY" mean? It's a grand theft auto case from 1996. In public records under status it says open. My deceased friends daughter wants to move here with her father and he had gotten into some trouble when he was younger. Everything else says closed or dismissed except this one. She doesn't want to move here with him and have something happen to him and have him get taken away too. She wanted to know if this is still something he'll be taken away for.

Not sure what the file returned part means so you would have to talk to an attorney that practices in Deland to find out. However, it sounds like there may be an outstanding warrant. Most warrants don't just "go away" or are magically "dismissed" (it does happen on occasion though). This is why I suggest you talk to an attorney from that practices in the county where this happened.
You can usually look on the local sheriff's website to find out if there is an outstanding warrant. If there is, then the case is still pending.
I am a Florida Attorney and have never heard of that. Contact the Clerks office, criminal felony division, and inquire. They should be able to help you.
