Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
Filing a False Police Report
I filed battery charges against a friend a few months ago. The case is still pending. Although these charges are legitimate I was planning on calling the DA and telling them the charges were false. He has serious psychological issues and needs treatment not jail time. Will they drop the charges even though he has a significant juvenile history as well as 2 previous battery charges? Plus, there was a witness that also wrote a sworn complaint. What type of repercussions may I expect?

Re: Filing a False Police Report
This doesn't sound like a case the State Attorney's Office (the "DA") is likely to drop given your friend's criminal background, but you could try.
Be aware, though, that you could face charges of filing a false police report if you now claim that it didn't happen.
