Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
finding out legal rights
I was arrested for solicitation for prostitution in an undercover sting operation in Pinellas County Florida. I was placed in jail over night and was bought before a judge via circuit TV where I pleaded no contest. I was then fined $300, plus $50 investigation charge, I had to get an STD test and placed on probation for 6 months at $50 a month visit. This is my first offense in over 31 years and it seems to be really harsh punishment for such a small offense, especially since there was an off duty police officer who was let go the same night as I was arrested caught for the same act. My question is this ''should I appeal the charge? and if I do and lose, are my consequences going to be worse?'' I keep hearing about Florida's tough system and feel fearful, because once your in the system it's hard to get out. I just want to move back to Massachusettes and reapply for disability. Please offer some suggestions on what to do. I am broke financially.
