Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

My friend got arrested for a crime that I really did. The cops said they seen him do a hand to hand transaction outside my house. What really happened is the guy buying narcotics came in the house and purchased the drug from ME, not my friend. Nobody would talk while they were questioning us. They ended up taking my friend to jail and charged him with delivery. Now, my question to you is would I be able to go to the police and confess that it was me that sold the drugs? I cant do this anymore! It's been two weeks since his arrest and i feel really bad about not speaking up before. I should be the one going through this not him. And also, if I confess to this, will i get charged instead of him?

It may not be in your legal best interest, but it's certainly in your moral best interest to go get your friend off the hook. If you go to the police or the prosecutor, though, and confess, expect to be arrested. You'll want to speak to a lawyer before you do this.

I'd take a lawyer with me. It's admirable that you have a conscious and don't want your friend going down for something you did. However, it is possible that you won't be believed, or that your friend and you both will get burned. Be careful. Hire a good attorney and let him go to the state attorney first, w/o you being there. See if he can work something out. But yes, if they believe you, you will get charged.
