Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
My friend was arrested last month in Florida. Here are the charges Im trying to get an idea how much time he will spend in jail.
First off he just got out of jail in Michigan for a sex offence and spent 20 years in prison. He was released but was on a tether. After 6 weeks he cut the electronic devise off and fled. We did not hear from him till last week when we got a letter stating he was in jail in Florida. I called and got the charges on him.
1. Petty theft of $100.00 or less
2. Giving officers a false name.
3. Aggraded assault on a law officer
4. Aggraded assault on a law officer again
5. Aggraded assault with intent to commit bodily harm with a deadly weapon
6. Fugitive from Michigan
He pleads not guilty yesterday at his arraignment. He has a public defendant
Can you give me a ball park of what time will be served if found guilty?
Thanks
1 Answer from Attorneys
While no one can answer exactly what he'll get, I can give you an idea of what he faces. A year each on the first two chargs. 15 years each on the next three charges. On the fugitive charge, it will be up to Michigan so only a Michigan attorney can answer that. Very rough guess would be anywhere from 5 to 50 years. Goes without saying he needs an attorney immediately.
