Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I was with a friend at a bar. He obviously got slapped in the face, hard. I only think this because I heard a loud smack. Anyways, he fell back and hit his head. I rushed over he was bleeding out of every hole in his head. I immediately said call 911, then I left. Now detectives want to talk to me. There were at least 10 other people there. None of them are being asked any questions. Well my friend had been in hospital a month. Major head trauma. So my question is do I have to speak to anyone?

You are not required to speak to a law enforcement officer and if you feel that you may have commuted a crime you probably shouldn't. However based on your description, you have done nothing wrong and you probably want to do whatever you can in assisting in the investigation into your friend's assault.

While it is true that you do not have to talk to law enforcement, if you are not deemed a suspect, you could be forced to talk to a prosecutor if they use their subpoena power to get a statement from you. Talking to an attorney would be best.
