Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
My friend was caught shop lifting about $20 worth of clothes. Monday is his first count date to enter a plea. He has not hired a lawyer or anything. I was doing some research for him and found the possibility of 'deferred prosecution'. Would it be possible for him on his own to ask for deferred prosecution when in front of the judge on Monday? Or what should he ask for in order to try and keep the conviction off his record in the future? Thank you so much!

He can ask but he has to apply with the state attorney. It could be done without an attorney but since this program is strictly up to the state, you would increase your odds by getting an attorney.
