Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

A friend was cited for simple battery against a bar "bouncer" by the seminole indian tribal police (hillsborough county Florida. The bouncer (+200 pounds) was never struck (there are witnesses), and my friend (90 pound female) ended up in the hospital. She has been given a hearing date. Would the charge be adjudicated by the tribe? Can she use a public defender? Thanks!

Where is the hearing and what is it? Likely she is still eligible for a public defender even though the police are indian tribal police. I'd need more information, but it sounds like the state is still the one who will be prosecuting. Look at the court where the case will be heard. If it is at the Hillsborough County Courthouse, then it should confirm that this is a state matter and therefore for the crime your friend would be eligible for a PD, assuming she qualifies.
