Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
A friend of mine was arrested 4 months ago on a first degree felony drug charge. He has a public defender and they did depositions on the witnesses already but now wants to hire a private lawyer due to the seriousness of the charge, can a new lawyer redo the depositions of the state witnesses before trial also the trial date is a 1 half months a way. Should he get a good paid lawyer now that the family is willing to par for it or is it to far a long.

Your friend always has a right to hire a private attorney and if that would make him more comfortable going to trial then he should hire one. As for the depositions I recently had this issue myself. If there was fundamental line of questioning that wasn't asked by the public defender and I need it to file a motion or properly prepare the defense I would need to motion the court and get permission to redepose. The deposition if granted is restrained to those issues not already covered. If you would like to further discuss this case please contact my firm at 305.670.3119.
