Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Grand Larceny

I have a question for Lawguru.

My question has to do with Larceny versus Grand Larceny. My question is what would be the outcome of a person charge with one of this offenses and what would you say that a person with no criminal records would receive on a grand larceny offense if convicted of taking an item of 3 thousand dollars, more or less and what would be the worse scenerio if convicted of the crime?

Re: Grand Larceny

Theft (Larceny is an old-fashioned term) is punishable by up to a year in jail. Grand Theft of $3,000 is punishable by five years in prison, but it can be more under a variety of circumstances, such as if the property were taken from a home, taken from an elderly person, or under other circumstances.

It's unusual, though, for a first-time offender to get prison time in Florida's larger counties, where probation is pretty common for first-timers. In the smaller counties, jail or prison are definite possibilities.
