Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Grand Theft (sealing from department store)

I was working at a deptartment store and got caught returning merchandise on a gift card that I used for myself. The store accused of $349.00 which I don't feel is correct but at the time I was so scared that I just admitted to the amount. My first court appearance 2/10/06. How should I plead? I'm 18 and have never been in trouble a day in my life.I'm in college and will have my AA at the end of March. I was plannin on going away and I'm afraid this will effect my enterance into a University being that it will be a felony. There were two other people that were involved also. I'm scared to death. What usually happens in situtations like this? Help!

Re: Grand Theft (stealing from department store)

You should plead "not guilty" to grand theft. Since the value is over $300, it is a felony of the third degree, punishable by a maximum of 5 years in prison. I've handled hundreds of theft cases. There are no guarantees in any criminal case. However, many times, I am able to get theft cases dropped. Other times, I am able to keep clients from being convicted felons.
