Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
GTA by a Minor
My car was stolen this weekend,
and they caught the 16 yr old
behind the wheel.
Auto insurance is taking care of all
of the damage to the vehicle, but I
don't have renters insurance to
cover the contents of the vehicle
(my daughter had over $400 worth
of girl scout nuts that are now
missing with a lot of other valuable
items, DVD players, phone
chargers, etc.
My question is, I feel the parents
should be liable for the $500
deductable, the $400 nuts, and
other property that was taken.
Can I go after the parents for these
costs? if so, How?

You can initiate a small claims action, but it may end up costing you much more than you will likely collect.
Re: GTA by a Minor
You can contact the Office of the State Attorney for the 6th Judicial Circuit and inform the prosecutor of the missing items and request restitution as part of any sentence. However, be prepared to show detailed proof of your loss.
Re: GTA by a Minor
You could sue in small claims but between the filing fee and time investment you might break even. You can tell the state abpout your loss but you are never going to a get a nice check for 1000 anytime soon. You may get 25 dollars a month.
