Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
Harboring escape/fugitive
A distrout 16 year old student came to me for help. I could not get her to go home. She stayed at my place and i finally convinced her that home was best and took her home the next morning. The police came to my school and question me. I was fired. This was oct 06. Jan 07, a warrant was issued on a misdemeanor of shelter/assist unmarried runaway. Which i knew nothing of. I live in the same place but officers claim they could not find me. My girlfriend and i were stop for a traffic violation. I was arrested and released on bond. I have never been in court before. Never been in trouble with the law. When i go to court on the intial appearance, do i need a lawyer? If so can you recomend one? What can i expect?

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.
What were you arrested for? If only the misdemeanor, you might be able to resolve this matter on your own. I would go to the arraignment and speak with the State Attorney and see if you can go to a diversionary program.
If you are uncomfortable with this, it is well worth your investment in your future to hire an attorney to represent you in order to protect your clean record and good name.
