Held in Jail

A juvenile who was 17 yrs. old at time of arrest has served tim for the crime charged. But now is being held in jail to be a witness for a crimethat happened in 2004. The defendant in the case was just caught and the pre trial hearing is late October. What recourse does he to get out before then?

if his original sentence is complete, there is no justificatoin for them to hold him in jail simply to be a witness. Now, lets say he was a co-defendant on that 2004 case, and took a plea where he would testify, he could be serving his time on that charge, albeit a lesser sentence because of his promise to testify. I really need more facts before I could give a more definite answer. However, an attorney could always file the proper writ to get the person released where the facts make it possible.
