Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

There is a house in my neighborhood which the owners abandoned. It was for sale, the sign was removed, a man was in the drive, I asked him about the house, he said he had keys and maintained the lawn and believes the house is going to foreclosure. I asked him if I could play ball in the yard with my dog, he said yes. A neighbor called the police, they said I was a trespasser. Is there anyone who can permit me to be on that property? Does a key holder have authoriztion to permit me?

Talk about a nosy neighbor. However, that's not the point. Only the property owner or someone they designate, can give you permission to be on their property. A key holder only has authorization if the owner gave authorization. It sounds as if the police gave you a trespass warning. So, in order to avoid a criminal charge, stay off the property, unless you get permission, preferably in writing, from the owner.
