Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

My husband was convicted of a felony when he was about 21 (grand theft). Sentenced to about a year in prison. He is now 63 and would like very much to have his rights restored, primarily so he could vote, and I would like him to get a passport so we can travel. What would be involved to do this? Is it something we can do ourselves, or do we need to hire an attorney? What would be a fair fee to expect?

You don't need an attorney to get a passport. A felony conviction doesn't stop that. Getting his rights restored is a fairly straightforward process but understand that it may take several years to get accomplished. It is not a bad idea to get him an attorney to at least discuss this.
