Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

my husband is in prison in florida for possessing child porn on his computer the law says for class 3 felony sentence not to exceed 5 years but they sentenced him to 6 + years in prison how come if the law is not to exceed 5 years

Since I'm not sure what his exact charges were I can only speculate that it's because it is 5 years for each count. Usually in computer crimes each count would be for each photo. Therefore if there were 100 photos he could face up to 500 years.
