Are impeaching and suppressing a statement the same thing?

No, to impeach a statement means to have the statement's truth called into question either by the witness who made it by showing the witness said something else at another time, or with a different witness who says the statement was untrue. Suppressing a statement means that it was obtained in a legally unacceptable fashion and it will not be allowed to be mentioned in court.
