Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Impersonating a law enforcement officer

My question is, if someone states they are a law enforcement officer but they are not, is that a crime?

I am a single female living with my teenage son. Tonight a man visiting my next-door neighbor told my teenage son and two teenaged male friends he was an undercover K-9 officer, did the ''beep-beep'' on his Nextel radio, supposedly on the radio with the sheriffs office ordering units out, stating ''they are coming out to tear up your house.'' The kids came inside to tell me, I went out to see what was going on and the man proceeded to give me a hard time, threatened to harass me at work, came on my property to look in our car windows and write down our tag numbers. My son went out in the street where the man was parked to get his tag number and a free-for-all screaming match ensued, with the man daring one of the boys to hit him. I called my boyfriend at work, who then called the owner of the house to tell him he better get things straight, who then made his friend leave after my boyfriend hung up.

About 10 minutes later I overheard the home owner speaking to someone on the phone stating ''I had to make (name)leave, he started a lot of crap and even threatened my neighbor.''

Amy advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Impersonating a law enforcement officer

This is something that should be referred to the local law enforcement agency with jurisdiction to handle a criminal complaint where you live. In addition to impersonation, there may be other charges as well.
