Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Implications and Ramifications

I am 34 years old. I have befriended the daughter of a friend of mine, she is 17 years old. This is only a frienship, very above board and totally appropriate. Lately, i have noticed that she has become flirty and i would venture to guess that she has a crush on me. We typically have lunch together and discuss life and the decisions ahead of her such as college, career...etc. My question is what is my exposure as far as the appearance of impropriety. The term, jail bait comes to mind. She turns 18 in october, but i am worried about the time period in between. She jokingly told a friend the other day that she was talking to her boyfriend on the phone while she was on the phone with me and that really made me nervous. Please advise! Can i protect myself in any way without hurting my young friend?

Re: Implications and Ramifications

RUN don't walk. A 34 year old man shouldn't be lunching with a 17 year old girl. You must establish clear boundaries and cut off any flirtation immediately. you must be the grown up. its the mixed signals which are unfair.im sure you are flattered by the attention, but 17 years old can have a crush one day and hate you the next. She is child under the law regardless of how she looks or acts. I'd would not pursue it any further and if she asks why, be honest. You can be a buddy, you can be there to listen, but thats it.Do not share yourself and build an inappropriate intimacy. You are flirting with disaster.
