An Information is the formal charging document that the State Attorney files with the Clerk's office. It's the way that formal criminal prosecution is commenced & is an indication that the State believes it has a good faith basis to proceed with criminal charges. It is akin to an Indictment & it sets forth the legal basis for the charges filed against a defendant, including the crime & statute number, a brief and somewhat generic description of the offense & the date and county where it was committed.
