Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I am trying to get a job in the healthcare field, but i have 2 felony convictions on my background. One charge is about 17 years old for battery. The other charge possesion of cocaine and paraphannelia is about 10 years old. I am a new person today with a positive outlook, but it seems my past keeps haunting me. I would like to get my records expunged. Where do I start and how much will this cost. Thank you, Renee

You may be able to get ONE of those charges sealed/expunged if you were given a "withhold" (ie not convicted). If both the battery and cocaine/para were withholds you would be able to choose one or the other.

As far as prices, that can vary from lawyer to lawyer. Feel free to contact a local criminal defense attorney for help or feel free to call the number on my website and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Good luck,

I agree with the above answer, but would clarify that if you received a withold of adjudication, you can seal, but cannot expunge, one of these matters from your record. You can only expunge a case/offense if it was dismissed. As for costs, you can expect to pay about $150 in tangible costs for the process. The going rate for attorneys varies greatly, so I suggest calling around to lawyers in the county where the offenses were committed to get a better understanding. Here in Central Florida, the average rate is around $1,000.00. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.
