Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
juvenile offense and background check
At age 16, I was arrested for shoplifting at a department store. I was told that my juvenile record would be sealed. Now I am wondering if that information will show up on a background check.

Re: juvenile offense and background check
The arrest will show up in a background check; however teh ultimate disposition will say sealed.
You should move to expunge the record if you do not want anything to show up.

Re: juvenile offense and background check
By statute, juvenile records are supposed to automatically seal at age 24, but I've seen cases where this didn't happen. Only an expunction will ensure that the record is not viewable by anyone except law enforcement, the military, and the Florida Bar.
