Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Juvenile record question

When I was 15, I was charged with stealing from Target. When I was first arrested, my original charge was petit theft, but by the time I went to courtm it had changed to grand theft! I served all three months of my probabtion without incident (and, yes, it was my first offense), but now that I'm over 18, I try to get a job, but all the employers say I have a bad background. How do I go about getting this off of my name since I was a juvenile?

Re: Juvenile record question

You can petition to have the record sealed as long as the judge withheld adjudication and you have no other convictions. You can contact my office and I can quote you a fee for doing it for you.

Re: Juvenile record question

As long as you were not adjudicated delinquent (guilty) you will qualify to have the record sealed.

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

Normally, juvenile records are automatically sealed and should not show up on your criminal record once you reach the age of majority which is 18. If your past does affect you, then if adjudication was withheld and you only got probation, and have never been convicted of any other crime, you can have your records sealed or expunged. This will effectively clear your record for all but government agencies which can still see this information.
