Your question is a bit vague and specifics matter.
If you catch a person in the act of a criminal mischief and you "put your hands on them" in order to stop or apprehend the person then it is legally justified. On the other hand, if it is done as a sort of punishment or for revenge then it would be unlawful.
What specifically the person who is committing the criminal mischief is very important, as is the manner by which you "put your hands" on the other person.
