Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

legal rights

My 15 year old nephew says he was forced/intimidated into a car. they drove him araound he had no money they droped him off. He found a police officer. We had already reported him missing. He filled out a report they kept him from adults for sometime did not let us near him nor let us know where he was at then they droped him back off to us. Now they want him to come back and take a lie detectors test. We were going to do it but then thought better of it. We don't know all the facts and he has been with out counsil do they have a legal right to force him to take a lie detector test without council or charging him with any thing?
