Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Length of sentence & searching property

I have a friend that I went to school with in the 60's, and when he was about 18 he was arrested, charged with selling drugs and sent to prision. He was to serve an 8-15 year sentence, he requested a parole hearing after 3 years and was turned down. His father died while he was in prision and they would not let him out for the funeral . When he finally did get out he went to live at his moms house that had a private entrance but a door between his apartment and his moms living space, one night the police came to search his appt. and also searched his moms house and found firearms that belonged to his father in his moms bedroom closet and they put him back in jail. Can this be done legally, I know that selling drugs is illegal, and morally wrong, but my GOD murderers don't do that much time. And did they have the right to victimize his mom and then put him back in jail. I feel awful about this young man who yes broke the law, but should his entire life have been taken away from him, he has aged so much and his health is poor, he had a coronary this last year. When I knew him he was a rather sweet young artsy kind of guy, what torture he must have endured in prison.

He needs to fight this. If all you say is true, he has many valid defenses. He needs to retain a lawyer. The public defenders office in Ft. Pierce is worthless.

You need to speak with a criminal lawyer and describe the entire factual situation. It's entirely possible that there is a defense to the charge (or perhaps there might have been a defense, since now it sounds like it may be too late).
