My colleague is correct, the maximum penalty permitted by statute is a year in jail, a $1,000.00 fine and, if adjudicated guilty, a 2 year license suspension. There are a range of possible penalties that may accompany such an offense that would not include such harsh sanctions. As such, I encourage you to consult with an attorney in the county where your case is pending for some insight into the process. While my misdemeanor practice is limited to Orange, Seminole, Osceola & Lake Counties, I may be able to refer you to an attorney in your area should you wish to speak with someone regarding your case.
