Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
Misdemeanor possession options
Is Drug Court the same as ''first time offenders program'' Considering my son just turned 18 2 months prior to getting a notice to appear for misdemeanors: Count 1 possession of cannibus (under 20gr) and Count 2 possession of drug paraphenalia.

Re: Misdemeanor possession options
Yes, Misdemeanor Drug Court is a first time offender program. If your son is able to complete all of the requirements of drug court then the state will dismiss the charges. If you elect to participate in drug court, you should know that it is a pretty strict and time consuming program.
Before you plea the case out or enter the drug court program you should at least talk to an attorney and make sure that there isn't something that can be done which would result in having the case dismissed. (it could be cheaper than the drug court program)
My office is here in Broward if you would like to give me a ring to discuss further.
Good luck,
