misterminer (shop lifting)

My daughter shop lifted less than $300 from j.c. Pennys. She was not arrested she was told to appear in court on 3/27/08. She thought the date was on 3/28/08and thats when she went. The court clerk said that she could write a letter to the judge and the judge would rescedule a new date. What should she do?
