Re: Monetary award in civil case
Although this question came in as a criminal query it appears to be civil in nature. The proper place to file a case is according the damages claimed. The jurisdiction of the County Court is divided into two categories:
a. Summary Procedure (often called small claims) is any claim up to $5,000.00;
b. Civil Division $5,001.00 - $15,000.00.
There is also jurisdiction for c. All eviction matters. (If damages claimed are in excess of $15,000.00 the case will be transferred to Circuit Court).
Circuit Court:
All claims of any nature in excess of $15,000.00;
All claims in equity; and
All family matters.
I hope this answers your question.
