does paypal share liability with a seller who uses paypal only as the means for payment of stolen propertey, i.e., copyrighted material ?

I do not believe so. If PayPal had actual knowledge of a person's illegal activities (e.g. you sent them a letter notifying them), they should have terminated the account. Otherwise, there is no reason PayPal should investigate every item sold to determine its authenticity or legal ownership.
Why not simply report the stolen property to the proper authorities (i.e. police)?
Why would a copyright on the material make any difference if it is stolen? Perhaps I fail to understand your question.
