Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Petty Theft

My 18 year old son was cited for petty theft. He works in a grocery store. He asked a co-worker (a friend) to give 4 of his friends a discount on items purchased when they went to her register. She agreed. The boys purchased $159 worth of food. The cashier charged them $52. My son was not shopping with them. He was working at the time. As the four boys were walking out of the store (my son was with them at this point. part of his job is to help customers bring their groceries to their car) they were stopped by an undercover cop and a security guard. The four boys were arrested. My son and the cashier were not arrested but given a ticket. Do you have any advice as to where I go from here? Do you suggest I hire him an attorney? He was wrong by asking the cashier to give his friends a discount, but that was the only thing he participated in. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Re: Petty Theft

My recommendation would be to hire a local attorney

to guide your son through the legal system. Much will

depend upon his prior criminal record, the county it occured,

the prosecutor, the judge's procedures, etc. For example,

our firm has handled cases which have been dismissed, simply

by conducting thorough investigation to present to the

prosecutor.

If you're in the South Florida area, we'd like to

help. If not, and you need a referral in your area,

let me know.
