Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
I plead guilty to a felony charge to receive a lighter sentence. Now 25 years later, I had to have a background check ran for a volunteer position. Come to find out a handgun was added to the charge. No where on the papers I signed mentioned the handgun, but one is there now. I contacted the court and was told that the papers are in storage and it would be a ridiculous amount of money, and possibly won't be changed. Is that true?

It is possible since many courts destroy old records. That said, it would be advisable to hire an attorney in your area that may be able to do a motion to remove this from your record.

This sounds like it is worth hiring a lawyer to explore options as to what you can do.
