Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
What could possibly happen if I just plea guilty?
have a case being processed for grand theft, dealing in stolen property, and providing false ownership. I wasn't arrested because I am 8 1/2 months pregnant. Everyone keeps telling me to plea no contest so I can get a public defender. But I don't want the case to drag on because of me getting ready to have a baby. I know if I plea guilty, I will get sentenced right then and there. I don't have a previous criminal record. What can happen if I decided to just plea guilty instead of no contest?

You don't have to plead no contest to get a public defender, you just have to be "indigent" (poor), and you definitely don't want to plead guilty or no contest (which are pretty much the same thing)without a lawyer because you just might end up having your baby in prison. When you go to court, ask for a public defender. If the judge says you don't qualify, go get a private lawyer.
