Postal service non-delivery mail

Can postal service be held liable for non-delivery of utility bill it previously mailed (returning to sender as undeliverable), incurring me a late charge? Is my credit affected?

Re: Postal service non-delivery mail

Federal law blocks lawsuits against the US Postal Service for negligent delivery of the mail. I would assume that includes non-delivery of the mail.

At any rate, I don't think I've ever seen a utility company place a late-pay on a credit report, though I have seen non-pays on credit reports. You can check your credit reports for free at annualcreditreport.com, but I very much doubt that you have any remedy against the USPS if you find a negative mark on your credit.
