Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
A private criminal defense attorney in Florida was paid in full at the end of the case, but then mentioned that they accept bonuses. I can't find anywhere online anything about lawyers asking for bonuses or how much is expected for one. Is this common practice and is there a way to calculate how much the attorney should get? For example, tipping a waiter 20% for good service. Again, this was a criminal case and no money was awarded to the client in the case.
Thanks!

Typically, criminal defense attorneys work on a flat fee. No tipping is expected and may even be unethical. Sounds like there is more to this story as I have never heard of an attorney doing what you describe.
