The usual reason for having someone appear in person at probation is that they have an arrest warrant for you. That may not be the case, but nevertheless, you have no choice but to go. Your probation agreement says that you will obey the requests of your probation officer, and that includes showing up. If you don't show up, then there will almost certainly be an arrest warrant issued.
