Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
PTI Program in Florida
Two years ago I was arrested for grand theft and they made an agreement with me since it was my first offense to be entered into the PTI program so that I could avoid trial and get a clean record if I completed the program, which I did a year ago. Now I'm entering Nursing school and they require a background check and I wanted to make sure that if this never went to trial, does anything show on my record or was there any other steps that I needed to take to have my record cleared? I was told once I completed the program, I'd have no record but I just want to be sure because school is very important to me, I don't want this to come back and haunt me.
Thank you.

Re: PTI Program in Florida
The grand theft arrest will still be on your record if your school runs a criminal history on you. The record will reflect that you were arrested for grand theft, but completed the State's PTI program and got the charged dismissed.
To get more protection, you are going to want to have your arrest record "sealed" or "expunged." Sometimes the State's PTI agreement prohibits you from getting your record "expunged," but you should be able to get it "sealed" if you have no other prior arrest record.
Please visit my website at: www.slavinlawfirm.com where I have an entire page on sealing and expunging your arrest record in Florida.
Let me know if you have any questions and/or would like help with this.
Good luck,

Yes when they run your background, the arrest and disposition will come up. You must go through the seal/expunge process. You should start asap, becuase it takes several months. My firm handles these matters regularly if you are seeking an attorney to do this.
