That depends on a lot of factors, not the least of which is does the false statement made constitute the legal definition of perjury. Just because a statement was made under oath and not true does not necessarily make it perjury. However, if the statement was perjury, it is a crime and could subject the individual to criminal prosecution.

In what context? Perjury turns the justice system into a sham, perjury can cause you to go to jail, and having a perjury conviction ruins your reputation as an honest person for the rest of your life.
