Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I have a question, an 18 year old kid is arrested and signs a confession to the crime, he spends the next 10 years in jail, he serves his time and let out of jail no probation he is done paid in full. A few years later he is picked up agian and is told he either signs the confession of he will go to jail for life. so he signs it, now they are wanting to use his his past crime the one he already serves as an excuse to tack on more jail time for this crime. My question is in the state of Florida I was under the impression that once you serve your time you have paid your dept to the people can they use that past crime to add on more time for the new crime? By the way they have no physical proof that a crime even happaned but they scared a man (who is more like a kid since he has been in jail all of his adult life) into signing a confession. I warned him to NEVER sign anything that is not true. Noone in their right mind can believe a thing they have to say did he lie on the confession or is he lying about the crime. once you start to lie noone can trust you.

In Florida depending on what your past crime was, it can and often is used to either determine your score sheet or can be used in certain cases for enhancement penalties. Your friend should talk to a local criminal defense lawyer to discuss his options.
