Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I was recently arrested for shoplifting at a clothing store. The value was $ 45.00. I have never been arrested or gotten into any kind of legal trouble before. I just turned eighteen last month. I was given a court date. What do you think the judge will say?

As a 1st time offender, it's the prosecutor that you should focus your attention on, as he/she has the authority to refer your case to pre trial diversion (PTD). PTD is designed to allow the 1st time offender with an opportunity to earn a dismissal of the charges through the completion of community service & an anti-theft &/or impulse control class, among other requirements. If & when the case is dismissed, you can apply for expungement of this offense from you permanent criminal history. I recommend you ask for diversion & if it's not offered, hire an attorney.

I agree with the other gentleman. Due to the fact that this is a first time offense, you have an excellent chance to apply for pre trial intervention (PTI or PTD). Once you complete the necessary steps, your case can be dismissed and you can then work on getting your case expunged.
