Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
I was recently charged with a misdemeanor for possession of cannabis under 20 grams. The only cannabis in I had was a small jar with about one half gram. I was not taken to jail, but given a notice to appear in court in one month. What will the punishment be for this offense? I have never been in trouble before and I am very worried.

The maximum punishment in Florida for a Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana offense is up to one year in jail. I am not saying the judge or that your case will warrant a jail sentence, but in Florida crimes are categorized based upon possible punishment. Additionally, in Florida if the judge adjudicates you guilty, you are in danger of having your driver's license revoked for 2 years, and only eligible for a work permit after the expiration of 6 months.
I would advise you to seek the advice of an experienced criminal defense attorney to help you aviod a possible jail sentence, as well as try to protect your privelige to drive a motor vehicle.
