Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
I was recently charged with 3rd degree grand theft by my employer. I was fired in march of 2009 and got arrested june 01 of 2010 a warrant was issued may 28 of 2010 I had no idea that there was any type of investigation or anything until the officer showed up at my door, i have never been in any type of trouble other than traffic violations and i have never even been arrested, would i be okay going with a public defender or should i get a personal lawyer. my former employer is stating that we manipulated cash registers to make it seem like people were buying lottery when they were buying food and that we stole lotto winnings and scratch offs, but we were told we were allowed to play scratch offs as long as they were paid and on top of that instead of being paid by checks we were allowed to cash our own checks out of our registers so of course we are on camera obtaining money...what do i do...i know the max penalty for this is 5 years but does anyone have any advice on what to do to avoid getting 5 years...i have 2 daughters and my biggest concern is going to jail for something i didnt do and losing my kids PLEASE HELP!!

If you can afford an attorney you should definitely hire an attorney. While public defenders are good attorneys, they are very overworked and will not be able to devote as much time to your case. It sounds like you may have a defense so talk it over with an attorney.
Please come and see me as soon as possible. Do not talk to anyone about this. Do not make any more statements over the internet. I offer a free consultation.
