Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I was recently stopped outside of a Bealls location for stolen property of three items under $100. I complied and was honest with the Loss Prevention Agents and the policeman. I was put in handcuffs and read my Miranda Rights but not booked nor sent to jail. This is the first time I have ever attempted to steal and a first time offender. I have never been in trouble with the law. I am a college student and currently work for a retail company. I have my whole life to think about and am very scared. I am 21 years of age and female.

My questions are:

1) I am remorseful and understand what I did was wrong. Should I plead guilty?

2) What will happen at my first court appearance?

3) I do not want this on my record how do I get it off?

4) Should I ask for (a) a withheld adjudication, (b) Pre-Trial Intervention, (c) deferment. What do these entail?

5) I have written a letter of apology to Bealls should I send it?

6) I have taken an assessment with NASP; should I present it to the court?

7) Should I enroll in the NASP educational program to show my good faith.

You should not plead guilty. You should consult an attorney in person. Only a and b of the possibilities may be available to you, and b is your best option if you qualify. Let your attorney know about your participation in NASP. If you successfully complete diversion, you may be eligible to expunge your record.
