Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Requesting a Public Defender

I have been charged for Disorderly Conduct for (supposedly) urinating in public outside a bar. At the arraignment, I stated I would be hiring a private attorney.

However, the cost is much more than I had expected, and I would like to request a public defender.

Is this possible, and how?

Re: Requesting a Public Defender

When you appear at your next court get a deputy to hand you an affidavit of insolvency or application for the public defender. Have it filed out for when the Judge calls your name. Tell the Judge you can't hire an attorney and that you have completed the paperwork for the public defender. The Court will review it and let you know if a public defender will be appointed.
