Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
my roommate called the police and said I battered him. they didn't arrest me. he moved out of state. is there a case?

Perhaps. Plenty of people have been arrested (and convicted) simply based on the allegations of one person. If the police had reason not to believe him then the prosecutors may not either and decline to prosecute the case. Of course, if he moved out of state then he would need to return as an essential witness if and when this case went to trial.
