Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

shop-lifting

My daughter was caught shoplifting on her senior trip. She and a group of her friends were all stopped and she was the only one to be taken in by Universal Theme Park security. The rest had the chance to go back in the store and return items. There is a $200 fine they now want her to pay? What should we do?

Re: shop-lifting

You should not do anything without a lawyer. The consequences of even paying that fine could follow her forever. I handle cases in that area of Florida. Please feel free to call anytime.

Unfortunately, I think you are just at the tip of the iceberg. In Florida, the retailer can demand a civil fine that is in addition to the criminal penalties that can be imposed by the State Attorney.

I practice in Orange County where your daughter's case is and would be able to help you in this matter and explain things in more detail.
