Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

son in a correctional institute

My son is a prisoner at Century Correctional State Prison in the panhandle of Florida. We have been informed that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer both testicles. The prison has denied him any medical treatment. If the cancer hits the brain he will be dead. Who can I turn to for help?

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

His attorney or public defender should file a motion in the court where he was tried to seek proper medical treatment. Alternatively, a civil lawsuit can be filed against the State of Florida Department of Corrections to force them to provide the medical treatment or to otherwise release him so that he can obtain it on his own. This may be a costly battle, but your son's life is at stake according to the facts you presented.
